All the great attributes and accuracy of our original STRETCH 16 Precision Barrels, but with fluting and the added benefit of Melonite surface conversion for longevity! STRETCH 16 Precision AR15 Barrels are considered to be among the best precision AR15 barrels on the market. This is a Hand Lapped, precision AR15 barrel and it happens to be the barrel of choice for many competitive shooters and law enforcement agencies due to its guaranteed accuracy and soft shooting appeal. The STRETCH 16 is a custom made barrel from start to finish. The foundation of every barrel begins with a barrel blank which is the reason why STRETCH Precision only uses McGowen Premium Barrel Blanks. These blanks are shaped into 16" medium profiled tack drivers chambered in .223 Wylde with a button rifled 1/8 Twist Rate. The .223 Wylde is regarded as the most accurate chamber for both 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. The benefit of the .223 Wylde Chamber is that it provides the strength of a 5.56 NATO chamber while maintaining the accuracy of a .223 Remington chamber. The large majority of precision barrels are now .223 Wylde with 1/8 Twist Rate. One full bullet rotation in every 8" of barrel length means accuracy can be maintained with multiple bullet grains/weights. What really sets the STRETCH 16 Precision AR15 Barrel apart is its "stretched" or intermediate length gas system. Typically, AR type rifles come in Carbine Length, Mid Length and Rifle Length gas systems. The STRETCH 16's Intermediate Length gas system is approximately 2" longer than the Mid Length gas system and approximately 1.5" shorter than Rifle Length gas systems. The longer the gas system, the softer shooting the rifle is. The afore mentioned features make the STRETCH 16 Precision AR15 Barrel one of the softest shooting and most versatile AR15 barrels on the market. Complete Barrel Assembly includes a Melonited 17-4 PH Stainless Steel clamp on style .750" Low Profile Gas Block in addition to an intermediate length Gas Tube.
*Hand Lapping is a process that deposits lead evenly inside the barrel which smooths the bore and eliminates the need for a lengthy break-in process. A smooth bore is by all definitions a more accurate bore.
*Melonite is a surface conversion treatment that makes the steel extremely hard therefore resulting in a barrel with longer life and durability. Barrel and barrel extension are processed at the same time in order to create consistency throughout the bore. We use a proprietary method to secure our barrel extensions throughout the process. Altering the barrel in any way or penetrating the Melonite voids the warranty.
*Be wary of cheap imitations and copies- If it doesn't say STRETCH 16, it is not one of our custom world class barrels.
When I decided on building a new rifle for 3-gun, I wanted a lighter barrel with superior accuracy and the softest recoil impulse possible. My previous 18" barrel was too heavy and long but had the super flat recoil required for3-gun. The Stretch-16 achieves all that and more. I could not be more pleased and the barrel has backed it up all year in matches. I chose melonite for superior longevity based on other users experiences with high round counts. It really is a fantastic barrel with beautiful color choices to match pretty much any build. I have not found another hand lapped precision barrel anywhere to perform as well in 3-gun as the Stretch-16. Mac Vining on Dec 5th 2016
My 2nd Stretch barrel was Melonited. I put it in a "stage gun" build to test a few things out and this barrel was severely abused. Printed 0.6" at 100 yards with 5 rounds of 69 grain ammo at about round number 50. After 9700 rounds, and no cleaning at all, it still printed 0.6" at 100 yards with the same ammo. At one point I put 120 rounds through the barrel in under 1 minute then dumped it in a tube full of ice-water. Water hissed and boiled out of the ejection port.
Accurate, soft-shooting, durable, light. Not much more you can ask for from a barrel. Mark Passamaneck on Dec 5th 2016
I have been using this barrel for over a year now and it still produces the same accuracy as day 1! I didn't have time to develop a load for my rifle this year and purchased factory match ammo and with a 69 grain bullet, I shot a 1.4" group at 200 yards with a 6 power scope.
The light weight is great for hard fast transitions and the button rifling is perfect for the accuracy you need at long range. The melonite coating is also a great option to extend the life of your purchase, I am over 10K rounds and it still out performs my other rifles. Nicholas Molina on Dec 4th 2016
Sub MOA accuracy, minimal weight, low recoil impulse, optimal dwell time, and added lonegtivity due to the melonite process. I dont see any reason to own a barrel other than this one. The weight is close to carbon fiber options at half the cost, and due to the high quality of manufacture deflection in POA/POI at long range while hot is minimal. Add those benefits in with the recoil impulse of the proprietary gas system length and added life from the melonite and this barrel is hard to beat if not impossible.
I found the accuracy and light weight of this barrel optimal for a competition build. The barrel performs well at the extended ranges we normally see at national level matches, but remains light and nimble for close targets with wide and hard transitions.
