The (GEN 2) STRETCH Precision 18" Varmint AR15 Barrel is top of the food chain when it comes to premium AR15 barrels. The Varmint features check fluting in the front and straight flutes in the back. These distinctions aren't just for show. The design shaves weight and aids in cooling. This is a custom, hand-lapped, precision AR15 barrel and it happens to be the barrel of choice for a large number of competitive shooters and law enforcement agencies. Its guaranteed accuracy and soft shooting appeal can’t be denied. All STRETCH Precision barrels are made from premium 416R barrel blanks and shaped into medium profile tack drivers. The STRETCH Precision 18" Varmint comes chambered in .223 Wylde with a button rifled 1/8 Twist Rate. Please note: the .223 Wylde is regarded as the most accurate chamber for both 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. The benefit of the .223 Wylde Chamber is that it provides the strength of a 5.56 NATO chamber while maintaining the accuracy of a .223 Remington chamber. The large majority of precision barrels are now .223 Wylde with 1/8 Twist Rate. One full bullet rotation in every 8" of barrel length means accuracy can be maintained with multiple bullet grains/weights. What really sets the STRETCH Precision 18" Varmint AR15 Barrel apart is its "optimized" intermediate length gas system.  The Intermediate Length gas system is approximately 2" longer than the Mid Length gas system typical of 18" barrels. The longer the gas system, the softer shooting the rifle is. The aforementioned features make the STRETCH 18 Precision AR15 Barrel one of the softest shooting and most versatile AR15 barrels on the market. Varmint barrels include an intermediate length Gas Tube and thread protector.

*Hand Lapping is a process that deposits lead evenly inside the barrel which smooths the bore and eliminates the need for a lengthy break-in process. A smooth bore is by all definitions a more accurate bore.

The Varmint configuration works best with bullet weights from 50 to 60 grains with faster powders near maximum velocities.  It handles all bullet weights equally well from an accuracy standpoint, but the recoil impulse is optimum with the lighter, faster projectiles.
